In the early 20th century Sofitel Metropole Hanoi was considered one of the finest hotels in Southeast Asia, its reputation rivalling that of Raffles. Charlie Chaplin honeymooned here. Writers Graham Greene and Somerset Maugham found inspiration in the spacious rooms overlooking lovely, courtyard gardens. In 1992 the hotel was restored to its former glory and underwent further major renovations in 2005. Restoration was kept faithful to the hotel’s original French colonial character.

The exterior dating back to 1901 has been retained, showcasing the trademark green shutters and classic white façade. The original 109 rooms still feature dark timber floors and generously high ceilings…possibly even a ghost or two!
