This former colonial mansion was first used as a hotel during the 1930s when it became the place to stay for visiting dignitaries and globetrotters. In July 1999, the hotel reopened after a five-year, $3.1 million US renovation. And, once again, Settha Palace has become one of the best places to stay in Indochina. With just 29 rooms, the Settha is an intimate hotel set amid landscaped tropical gardens in a quiet location in the heart of Vientiane.

The hotel is tastefully decorated throughout, and consistently faithful to its French colonial roots (the interior designer also worked on the Raffles renovation). Rooms are cosy and attractive with reproduction French rosewood furniture, including four poster beds, antique details, wooden floors and Venetian marble bathrooms.
