Itinerary

Day 1 ~ Explore the former royal capital

This afternoon start exploring the former royal capital at some of the town’s most beautiful temples, followed by a fun Lao cooking class and the chance to eat your creations.

Day 2 ~ Visit the beautiful Royal Palace

Visit the beautiful Royal Palace and set out for a visit to a village which makes mulberry paper, as well as the tombstone site of Henri Mouhot, the Frenchman who ‘re-discovered’ Luang Prabang. In the afternoon explore the surrounding jungle on the back of an elephant, then return to town for sunset from Mount Phou Si.

Day 3 ~ See robed Buddhist monks collecting alms

Rise early to see robed Buddhist monks collecting alms at dawn. Follow this with a swim at the Kuang Si Falls. On your return to Luang Prabang stop to visit a H’mong hilltribe village and learn about their culture and history. The afternoon is free for shopping or simply wandering.

Day 4 ~ Explore more of Luang Prabang's gilded temples

Take today at leisure to explore more of Luang Prabang’s gilded temples, marvellous cafés and boutiques, and take in the Mekong scenery.

Day 5 ~ Travel up the Mekong River to the 'Cave of 1,000 Buddhas'

Travel up the Mekong River to the ‘Cave of 1,000 Buddhas,’ then continue to the Kamu Ecolodge. Your hosts at this environmentally - and socially - responsible initiative will teach you how to pan for gold, fish and use a Kamu bow and arrow. Enjoy their company.

Day 6 ~ Return to Luang Prabang

Return to Luang Prabang. Your tour ends today with a transfer to the airport for your onward journey.

Inclusions

5 nights accommodation with breakfast daily, one lunch and two dinners, private touring, transport, entrance fees, local English-speaking guide, arrival transfer on tour start date and departure transfer on tour finish date. Kamu Ecolodge comprises comfortable, spacious tent-style accommodation. While rooms are of a good size and bathrooms and toilets are private, there are times when the solar-powered hot water system is not entirely efficient. The cooking class is a ‘join-in’ experience, which means that there may be other people in your class.
