Umaid Bhawan PalaceFrom single, double/twin per personThe palace’s private road winds upwards, through sprawling gardens to the grand lobby, where guests enter a world apart. Completed in 1943 and designed by the great Edwardian architect Henry Lanchester in a combination of Eastern and Western styles reflecting the Art Deco sensibilities of the time, the palace originally featured 347 rooms. All the expected luxuries are here, from a swimming pool to a Jiva Spa and a variety of restaurants that serve Western and local cuisine; there is even a palace museum and library. Rooms are spacious and feature Art Deco flourishes. Most have superb views of the city. This is a refined experience of the royal lifestyles of India’s princely past.
