As Tibet is at an average altitude of 4000m, year-round temperatures can be quite cool although it is frequently sunny with clear skies. Sunshine can be hot and sharp at this high altitude. Evenings can be very chilly, even in summer, and spring and autumn bring freezing nighttime temperatures and the possibility of snow. The weather in Tibet is very changeable and it is not uncommon to experience four seasons in one day. Travellers should come well prepared for harsh weather conditions in Tibet.
