Longsheng

Longsheng is approximately a 3 hour drive outside of Guilin. Home to various minority tribes including the Red and White Yao and Zhuang, this remote region has hillsides covered with bamboo and rice terraces.

The Dragon's Backbone rice terraces is the highlight of a visit here with spectacular vistas of rice terraces clinging to the sides of 800 metre peaks. The Yao village has seen an increase in the number of new guesthouses being built in the style of traditional wooden stilt houses, but is still a charming place to wander with winding stone pathways, bamboo covered hillsides, and elderly White Yao women selling their special chilli pastes.
