Greatwall

One of the seven wonders of the ancient world, The Great Wall of China is an awe-inspiring site. Stretching from East to West across the vast country, the Wall measures almost 6,500 km long. In accordance with Chinese tradition, the Wall is seen as the body of the dragon, with the head resting in the sea and the tail in the desert - beyond Jiayuguan in the Gobi desert of Gansu.

The Great Wall was built haphazardly, and was not the work of one dynasty. Much of it winds through inhospitable territory, such as the snow-capped mountains surrounding Beijing - and legend has it that one person died for every five metres in creation of the mighty structure.

Let Travel Indochina take you to places where the Wall is at its best. In fact, this amazing architectural phenomena has been voted as some of our tour leaders' favourite place in the world! Some of the Wall is totally derelict, having crumbled over centuries exposed to the harsh elements but in those places it remains standing, its magnitude will never cease to impress. And be sure to grab the chance to climb the wall where it's possible to do so - what an experience!
