As China’s oldest city, Xian has played a pivotal role in much of the country’s history and remains an exciting place to visit today. Once an important hub on the ancient Silk Road, Xian is culturally diverse and rich with historic sites including the Old City Walls, the remarkable Army of Terracotta Warriors and the lively Muslim Quarter. Xian is also home to some mouth-watering regional delights, including the famous dumpling banquet.

Itinerary

Days 1 - 2 ~ Arrive in Xian

Arrive in Xian and transfer to your hotel. The day is free to explore the city’s walls, markets and experience the tasty regional cuisine. At dawn the following morning, begin with an atmospheric stroll around the vibrant Muslim Quarter. Walk along the top of the old city walls before continuing on to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Built in 652 AD, this beautiful temple was designed to house the Buddhist scriptures brought back from India by the travelling monk Xuan Zang. As well as having a long Buddhist heritage, Xian also has a distinct Muslim influence. Explore the heart of the lively Muslim Quarter and visit the Great Mosque, an interesting fusion of both Middle Eastern and traditional Chinese architectural styles and an important place of worship for Xian’s Muslim population.

 

Days 3 - 4 ~ Visit the truly remarkable Army of Terracotta Warriors

Visit the truly remarkable Army of Terracotta Warriors – one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century. Designed to defend Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s tomb in the afterlife, each figure is completely unique in both facial features and general expression. This afternoon take a stroll down atmospheric Calligraphy Lane. The next day your stay in Xian ends with your airport transfer.
